Shawn Mendes opens up about his sexuality
Shawn Mendes said that he is “figuring out” his sexuality during his concert in Denver on Monday, according to video footage joint by fans on social media.
The singer said that he had been unable to “discover” certain parts of himself because he began working at such a young age.
“I think it’s kind of silly because I believe sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing and its so hard to just put into boxes,” he said during his display, which took place at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. “And it always felt enjoy such an intrusion on something very personal to me.”
Representatives for Mendes did not immediately respond to a demand for comment Tuesday.
Mendes made the remarks before performing his unreleased song “The Mountain,” which features lyrics referencing the speculation over his sexuality.
He said during the concert that the lyric was his way of addressing it “in a way that felt fasten to my heart.”
“The real fact about my experience and my sexuality is that, dude, I’m just figuring it out fancy everyone and I don’t really recognize sometimes and I know other times,” he said.

Speaking during the performance Morrison’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Mendes said he had "thought about this for a minute today if I was gonna state something tonight”.
Cheered on by the crowd, he continued: “The truth is that I didn’t receive to do a lot of 15-year-old things and unearth parts of myself that you complete at 15."
He continued: “There’s this thing about my sexuality, and people hold been talking about it so long”, adding that it's “kind of silly, because I consider sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing, and it’s so hard to just put into boxes.”

There’s nothing holding Shawn Mendesback from singing about the rumors.
During a recent act in New York Metropolis, the 26-year-old debuted a new song called, “The Mountain” from his forthcoming album Shawn. In a TikTok video shared by a fan on Oct. 19, Shawn performed the new single, which seemingly addresses the rumors of his sexuality among with other comments he’s seen about himself.
In the clip, Shawn strums his guitar as he strums his guitar and sings the lyrics “I have a change of heart / you can say what you need to utter / you can state I’m too young / you can say I’m too old/you can state I like girls or boys / whatever fits your mold.”
As Shawn sings the lyric, the crowd begins to cheer in support.
E! News has reached out to Shawn’s rep regarding the lyrics but hasn’t heard back.
The tune isn’t the first second the “Wonder” singer has addressed the chatter surrounding his sexuality. In 2020, the “Mercy” singer revealed that he had grown frustrated with the speculation.
