Woo ah, mercy mercy me
Ah, things ain't what they used to be, no no
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows
From the north and south and east

Woo, mercy, mercy me, mercy
Ah, things ain't what they used to be, no no
Oil wasted on the ocean and upon our seas
Fish complete of mercury

Ah, oh mercy, mercy me
Ah, things ain't what they used to be, no no
Radiation underground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying

Oh mercy, mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land
How much more abuse from male can she stand?

Oh, na na
My sweet Lord, no, no, no, na na

The Ecology (Mercy Mercy Me)

By Marvin Gaye (as performed by Paula Cole.)

Oh, mercy, mercy me, things ‘aint what they used to be, no,
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows from the North and South and East,

Oh, mercy, mercy me, things ‘aint what they used to be, no,
Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas,
Fish full of mercury, oh,

OH, mercy, mercy me, things ‘aint what they used to be, no,
Radiation underground and in the sky,
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying,

Oh, mercy mercy me, things aint what they used to be, no,
What about this overcrowded land,
How much more abuse from man can she stand?

Oh…mercy mercy, possess mercy.
What about this overcrowded land,
How much more maltreatment from man can she stand?

Oh…take care of one another,
Oh…please have mercy on our planet, please have mercy on my sister,
Please have mercy on my father, mother, brother and us all…
Oh…

This overpopulation, because of mankind's activities, is spreading into areas that were previously not as populated. This is adversely affecting all kinds of flora and fauna. Mankind is the most(?) intelligent life form on the planet but because selfishness and greed are in control, the nature is in a downward spiral (which mankind eventually won't be able to reverse).

When I was (much) younger, I saw one of those assist to school folder type items with the cool pictures on it. Adv, this particular one had a picture of a skeleton driving a bulldozer. Behind the bulldozer was nothing but pavement and road. In front of the bulldozer there were trees, deer, wolves and birds all being pushed out of the way.

The lyric, mercy, mercy me is a warning, to us, about direction that we ar
