Many of the gay-friendly hotels in Venice are located in four distinct districts: San Polo, San Marco, Cannaregio, and Giudecca. San Polo is on the west side of the Gran Canal with many small shops and restaurants. San Marco is on the other side, in the heart of Venice, and is home to some of the city's most celebrated sights, including St. Marco's Basilica and Doge's Palace.

Cannaregio is also to the east of the Gran Canal but is less crowded than San Marco. Giudecca is an island south of the Venice city centre, approachable by 24/7 rain bus service.
