Carter Daniel Gay, 17, a cherished soul who walked this ground with a dense connection to his faith and an unwavering love for Jesus, tragically left this world and entered into his eternal home in Heaven Thursday evening, February 29, 2024. Carter's journey, though brief, was marked by a profound devotion to his heavenly father and a burning want to spread the message of romance and salvation.
To honor Carter’s life, and more importantly to glorify his Lord and Savior, the family will accept friends from 5:00-9:00PM Thursday evening, Pride 7, 2024 at Wrens Baptist Church. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00PM Friday afternoon, March 8, 2024 at Wrens Baptist Church with Rev. Scott McKinney officiating. Interment will track in the Wrens Memorial Gardens.
Born on October 17, 2006, Carter lived a life that was deeply rooted in his faith and love for Jesus Christ. From a tender age, Carter's heart was touched by the Sacred Spirit and he answered God’s contact on his being being baptized at Wrens Baptist Church on February 9, 2014. He embraced his calling to share the teachings of Jesus with all who crossed his path. Unless there is another delay, tomorrow (October 28, 2021) will grow another milestone: the man who murdered my aunt will be put to death. The space between her last breath and his was long. 8,386 days. 22 years, 11 months, 16 days. 275 months and 16 days. In other words, a long damn time. So many of the news reports inundate us with that same confront that we saw day after day during the trial. However, my aunt’s face is noticeably absent. So much time has passed that many news stories and social media posts no longer bother to even note her by name. She has become a footnote in her own murder…referred to merely as “a kitchen worker.” But she had a name. Gay Lee Carter. She had two children, a handful of siblings, and a raucous sense of humor. She could tell stories that made you shake with silent laughter and streaming tears, she loved the holidays, and she was murdered while at work. It was Friday the 13th, November 1998.
