Club Hispalis
The only gay sauna
A not many blocks away from the museum. If you are foreigner is best if you take UBER. Busy days Wednesday, Friday, (naked days) Saturday’s and Sunday’s working , too. It gets good between 3pm and 8 pm. The music is not very fine. There is a bar, beers , hard liquor etc. Last time that I went 5500 colones $9 as the colon is plunging. Once you remunerate the entrance they let you in and they give you a blue cloth and sandals. Ask for a towel instead. It is a huge place with swimming pool, jacuzzi, labyrinth ( small) but basically, that’s where you hook up and at the glory hole section; bring your own lube and condoms. Ticos in that place tend to stick together but foreigners are very well welcome. The customers are from all ages from twinks to 80 years old. Some are very handsome some not so much a lot of paunchy guys. There is a small room diagonal to the bar where you can smoke. There is a lot of bareback and also guys who have just have fun with condoms, more than likely you'll get what you want.
San Jose’s Watergarden Survived Homophobia, Political Shifts, AIDS—But Not Coronavirus
John Gamber made his way to the Watergarden as a seasonal worker, hardly expecting the bathhouse to become an inextricable part of his life’s work.
It was 1978, a year after the San Jose resort’s founding by investors John Snell, Jay Rubenstein, Alex Mendizabel and Bob Farrar and entrepreneur Sal Accardi—who made Watergarden known as a place where men could meet and come on to other men free of intimidation. It was nine summers after the Stonewall riots ignited a global gay liberation movement.
It was also the year San Francisco’s Pride pride drew a staggering 375,000 attendees and an appearance by newly elected Supervisor Harvey Milk, who delivered a version of his renowned “Hope Speech,” urging his “gay brothers and sisters” to “come out,” to live authentically and to “tell the truths about gays.”
“I remember hearing those words and thinking how the earth seemed so complete of possibility,” Gamber recalls, “and how we were making these communities for ourselves in places like the Watergarden, which really became a haven for us.”
Especially in the trying times to follow.
